For transparency, we provide the most relevant information about our fees and financial-related policies at Auburn Psychological Wellness Center below. Additional detail on our policies is provided through our client portal after booking an appointment.
Overview of Fees
Our current fees are:
- Individual therapy session: $170
- Psychological Assessment: $200/hour (5 hr minimum)*
- Psychiatry new patient appointment (~50 min): $250
- Psychiatry established patient appointment (~30 min): $150
- Couples therapy session: $180
- Group counseling session: $55
- Form completion or letter writing fee: $50/hour (1 hr minimum)
We do offer a private pay discount on individual therapy and psychiatry services to clients who choose to pay out of pocket.
*In addition to the hourly rate, an assessment material fee ($100) applies to psychological assessment appointments. This fee is not covered by insurance.
Cancellation and No-Show Policy
We ask for at least 24-hour notice of your need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24-hour notice, a $100 late cancellation fee applies. If you do not attend your scheduled appointment and you did not let us know in advance (i.e., you no-show to your appointment), a $100 no-show fee applies.
To provide on-time services for all clients, we ask that you arrive a few minutes early for your appointment. If you think you will be running late, call our office and we can discuss options. If you are more than 15 minutes late to most appointments, this will be considered a no-show. For 30-minute psychiatry appointments, if you are more than 10 minutes late, this will be considered a no-show. In these cases, the no-show fee will apply and the rest of your appointment time will be forfeited. Insurance does not cover late-cancel or no-show fees.
Note: the above policy was updated on September 1, 2023. Late cancellations and no-shows before that date were billed according to our previous policy. You can contact our office with questions.
Deposits
We require a deposit to schedule your first appointment. Deposits are non-refundable if you later choose to cancel your appointment. The current deposit rate for new clients who are scheduling a psychiatry or counseling appointment is $50. The deposit is due at time of booking, and the deposit amount will be credited to your first invoice associated with that service. Deposits are not refunded if you later choose to cancel the appointment.
The current deposit rate for psychological assessment appointments is $500, and is required for both new and current APWC clients. For the assessment deposit, $100 is required to schedule your testing appointment. This part of the deposit will be applied to the $100 assessment materials fee (see above). The remaining $400 is due 7 days before your first testing session. This serves as pre-payment for any assessment costs that will be your responsibility (e.g., deductible, co-insurance, hours not covered, etc). After insurance payments are finalized (if relevant), you can request a refund of any over-payment that resulted from the deposit. Testing sessions will be rescheduled or canceled if the full assessment deposit amount is not paid at least 7 days in advance.
Insurance
Our Providers who can accept insurance* are in-network with the following insurance companies:
- American Behavioral (Uprise Health)
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama
- Blue Choice (for non-Alabama BCBS policies)
- New Directions/Lucet (EPS Providers)
*Our associate licensed counselor (ALC) provider is unable to accept insurance (in-network or out-of-network), but she is able to offer a lower private pay rate than the rates posted above. Contact our office for more information.
In-Network Clients: If you have one of the above insurance policies, we encourage you to contact your insurance company in advance of your appointment to confirm coverage and any limitations of coverage. Most insurance plans require some cost-sharing by you in the form of coinsurance or copay. Depending on your policy, you may also need to meet your deductible amount before insurance will pay for any services. Any costs that are not covered by your insurance policy are your financial responsibility. We collect any known copays, coinsurance, and deductible costs at the time of service. Any additional fees not covered by your insurance policy will be invoiced to you after your insurance claims are processed; those bills are due within 30 days.
Out-of-Network Clients: Clients who are not covered by an in-network insurance plan are responsible for paying the full fee at the time of service. If you have insurance that provides reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services, we can provide you with documentation to submit to your insurance company. Please be aware that the full cost of services will typically not be reimbursed due to co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, and/or fee caps associated with your insurance policy. We strongly recommend that you communicate with your insurance company in advance to understand whether or not any out-of-network services we provide may be reimbursable.
Good Faith Estimates
If you don’t have insurance or don’t intend to use insurance to pay for scheduled non-emergency health care services, federal law (effective January 2022) requires that health care providers and facilities provide you with an estimate of the expected charges for medical items and services before the scheduled services are to be performed. If you are uninsured or did not use insurance to pay for your health care services and you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Any current or potential client may request an estimate of the expected charges for non-emergency health care services that have been ordered, scheduled, or referred. To request a Good Faith Estimate for services at Auburn Psychological Wellness Center, please call our office at 334.219.0425. We also provide a list of our current fees in our Practice Policies document that we send to all new clients. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, you can visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call 1-800-985-3059.
